Going Mobile

A design agency client of mine is really passionate about using design and content to encourage consumer engagement. The Managing Director is very knowledgeable on the subject and was keen to create a series of informative whitepapers that clients and other industry members could refer to.

I was asked to research and write about a number of different controversial topics facing the travel and tourism industry. Some of them are still in draft phase, but this is the first of the finished and published whitepapers and I’m really pleased with the results – I think the client was too! This one focuses on how, or not, the tourism industry is keeping apace with the rapid shift across to mobile technology and how, in some cases, their lack of investment in this area of technology can affect their success.

Gym Design Blogs

One of my regular contracts involves writing blogs on the gym and spa design industry. Having worked for this client for many years, in both their marketing and gym design departments, the chance to combine my knowledge of the industry with my writing is something that I really enjoy.

This is just one of the latest examples but there are plenty more if you fancy having a nosey around their blog!

Burt’s Bees Get Social

They’re social highflyers at the best of times! And now they’re on Facebook!

Having already done some content creation for some Burt’s Bees merchandising, I was asked to pitch for the management of the UK Facebook page.

With over 44,000 followers, this was no mean feat, as the page had already built up a dedicated community of bee-loving followers who love engaging with nature and sharing their bee-related experiences.

The aim was to develop a strategy of posts that would cover the brand’s products, heritage, values, consumer engagement and reward as well as create conversation. Working alongside Burt’s Bees creative agency, Glock, who produce all their brand assets and stunning imagery, we are continuing to develop a keen bee-loving community through the use of engaging and visually enticing online content.

A luxury B&B in Northumberland

When a family friend asked for my help in setting up a website for their new Bed and Breakfast, I was more than happy to oblige. As it transpired, I ended up building the website from scratch! Being used to just supplying content rather than design, this was a great challenge for me and one that really enabled me to showcase my creative side both visually and with words.

Having visited the property myself was an added bonus and gave me the inspiration for the final design. The owner also had quite specific ideas about what they wanted from their site and had done lots of research on what their competition was offering.

The website was also designed using a platform that will give them the scope to add on other services, such as online reservations and payments, at a later date.

Feedback so far has been really positive and I’m hopeful that the bookings will soon start rolling in!

Glock UK

Glock LogoGlock is an interdisciplinary creative agency represented in London and Stockholm. They have a client list to behold, having worked with some amazing global brand names including Grey Goose, Burts Bees, Tracey Emin and RBS / NatWest to name but a few.

I was introduced to Glock through a friend of mine who was aware they needed a new copywriter. After an inital meeting, I started doing some proofreading for them which then progressed onto straplines and, later, full content creation for a new product range a client of theirs was launching.

I have recently pitched to manage the UK arm of one of their client’s Facebook pages – can’t say who but watch this space! Check out their impressive portfolio at www.glock-uk.com

Moot Bar

Moot LogoMoot is the creation of husband and wife team, Jason and Lucie Hunt, alongside their long-term business partner and friend, Kendall Cordes. Between them they have accumulated years of experience from working in and managing renowned establishments such as The Ritz, The Sanderson, St Martin’s Lane, The Collection and Circus.

Set in the heart of the bustling Chiswick Park business complex, Moot is a relaxed and welcoming venue perfect for any occasion. Comfy sofas sit side-by-side with rustic tables whilst the large, outdoor terrace provides the perfect spot to take in the last of the rays after a hard day’s work.

I met Jason and Lucie at their other establishment, The Hole in the Wall. My local. Considered more as friends than just a mere Landlord and Landlady, I was really excited when they announced they were launching Moot. Having attended the launch evening and spent a fair amount of time socialising there after work, I felt well placed to write the copy for their new website!

I am pleased to say that Moot is thriving and both Jason and Lucie are becoming pros at tweeting out the daily specials!

Pomegranate Group

pomegranate-logo_1Pomegranate specialises in digital customer engagement across multiple channels including web, mobile and social. I initally worked for them back in 2008 when I first moved to London on a part-time basis, creating content for both their clients and for Pomegrante internally.

After a brief spell apart, during which I went freelance, I am now back with Pomegrante working 8 hours a week, largely on one particular client, creating content for their blog and writing product descriptions for their e-commerce site.

I love working with Pomegranate – their creative attitudes and talent never fail to surprise me, especially the way they find pictures to perfectly express my words. Furthermore I learn a lot from them too – their dedication to building online communities has taught me a lot about the value of customer engagement and how to get people excited about brands online.

A Great Moot Point…

One of my latest projects has been to write the copy for a new restaurant, bar and deli called Moot in Chiswick, London. It is run by 3 lovely people, husband and wife Jason and Lucie Hunt and their partner Kendall Cordes.

After an initial briefing meeting with the clients, it was clear that they wanted to convey a professional and upmarket operation but one that was also welcoming, relaxed and friendly. Having visited the bar this is exactly what it is!

Copy was subsequently supplied for the About Us, Food & Drink, Events & Functions and The Team pages. This has since been supported by the launch of both Twitter and Facebook accounts, both of which I set up for Moot. The site was designed by Nalla, a company for which I also do some other copy work and hence introduced them to Moot.

Nalla

Nalla LogoNalla is a design studio based in Hoxton, London, that specialises in design and art direction across multiple platforms.

I met their project manager at another agency I had done work for and we remained in touch. One day I got a call to see if I could come up with a few straplines for Greene King, a chain of public houses that they were working on and the relationship has blossomed from there!

They are a great company to work for, so much so that I recommended them to some friends of mine who were opening up a new restaurant and bar and they got the job! They have since developed and launched a fab new website for my friends who are delighted with the results.

You can see more examples of Nalla’s work on their website. www.nalla.co.uk/

motive8 Limited

motive8 Logomotive8 is a health and fitness company specialising in gym design, personal training and schools sports provision. I first came into contact with motive8 whilst working for a publishing company in Leeds, as they used to advertise in one of our publications.

motive8 primarily operates in the residential development market, installing, managing and maintaining gym and spa facilities for high profile house builders such as Barratt Homes, St George, Berkeley Homes and Telford Homes.

Upon moving to London I contacted the Managing Director looking for work – luckily they were in need of someone to work on their new website so I was offered a contract to help create the content for this.

Upon launching their new website, I was retained to work on other areas of the business, including quarterly newsletters, advertising materials and corporate branding. My interest in design also came into play in their gym design department, where I create CAD layouts and 3D renders of gym projects they are working on. I have worked for them for almost 5 years and still love it as much today as the day I joined! Visit their website at www.m8group.co.uk
